GIRLS FINISH ON A HIGH NOTE
The Lady Lizards played their last game of the season against Hernando and came away with a 12-8 victory.
The girls were led by Ariel Whitmore with a breakout game on offense scoring a hat trick with 3 goals and also assisting on two others.
Mallory Locke added 2 goals as well as Rae McBride and Amelia Terrill, each with two. Genevieve Wheeler had two goals also and Katie Couch had one in the game.
Delaney Webb recorded at least 12 saves in the goal.
Special thanks to Sydney Roig and Kristen Stevens as well as Hannah Kirkpatrick and Corinne Thomas for their sportsmanship and unselfishness.
-------------------------------------------------------------
HIGH SCHOOL BOYS DROP LAST ONE:
Against Wharton Saturday, the Lizards lost their final game of the 2009 season 12-0.
A tough way to go out with no goals on the scoreboard, but the game was played with Lizard Pride and the boys kept pushing through till the end.
Several offensive flurries were stopped by the aggressive checking of the defense from Wharton and the shots that were on goal (or inside the pipe, right Johnny?), were turned away by the quick stick of the goalie.
Ocala goalie Sam Raduns recorded 14 saves in each half with a total of 28 stops in the game.
---------------------------------------------------------
MIDDLE SCHOOL GOES OUT ON A WIN!
On the same field as the High School Boys would play, the Middle School team from Ocala had an easier time.
Ocala 12 New Tampa Black 4.
Controlling their game on the way to victory against New Tampa Black, the team earned it's second win of the season to finish out their schedule with a 2-6-1 record.
Good movement around the goal on offense and some solid saves in goal secured the win.
Great job Middle Schoolers, and don't let those sticks collect dust!
---------------------------------------------------------
GIRLS PLAY BERKELEY TO 8-7 LOSS
The Lady Lizards traveled to Tampa on Saturday and played an outstanding game against Berkeley Prep.
Playing in their first full length game, the girls had Berkeley Prep reeling for most of the game.
Outstanding goalkeeping by Delaney
Webb was key in shutting down the run and gun style of Berkeley Prep. Delaney had 29 saves in the game, with 17 of those coming in the first half. The defense was anchored by Laura Mancil with Janey Munoz and Corinne Thomas stopping the attack from mounting any offense.
Mallory Locke scored a team record 5 goals in the game bringing her goal total to 23 on the year!!
Rae McBride (who had an earlier goal called back with an offsides) and Amelia Terrill each added a goal of their own.
Ariel Whitmore, although coming up a little "short" at the draw circle, did earn an assist on one of Mallory's goals.
The game may have been the most exciting of the year, and was a tough loss  as the Lady Lizards really dominated all aspects of play and all 12 girls played hard for the whole game.
-------------------------------------------------------
BOYS TRAVEL TO SARASOTA, TAKE LOSS
The High School Boys team lost to Cardinal Mooney on Saturday by the score of 14-2.
The bright spots of the game were a fine assist by Garret Whitmore and also Will Wright's shot on goal.
Mike Manseau shined in goal, recording 30 saves and drawing rave reviews for some point blank stops throughout the game.
-----------------------------------------------------------
BOYS TEAM DROPS ANOTHER
The Lizards Boys lost another tough game at home on Saturday to Berkeley Prep 13-5.
A close first half had Sam Raduns stopping 15 shots on goal (25 for the game), and the score was a respectable 6-4 at the end of the half.
The Lizards were led offensively by John Wunderlich who had 2 goals and 1 assist. Also playing well, and scoring one goal each were Malone Locke, Mat Woolf and Mike Manseau.
-------------------------------------------------------
LADY LIZARDS AND FRIENDS EARN SPLIT
The Lady Lizards traveled to Clearwater Saturday and picked up some help from Hernando and Sickles playing against the Sarasota Surge in the first game and losing a close game 6-8.
Ariel Whitmore handled the draw circle and scored one goal while Amelia Terrill, playing midfield, scored one also.
Laura Mancil played well on defense and Corinne Thomas was all over the field, taking a shot on goal and even getting a "kind of" assist on a pass to Morgan.
Also adding goals for the "Super Team" were Morgan (Hernando) with 2, Tori (Hernando) with 1 and C.C. (Sickles) with 1.
Ashley Hued played excellent in the goal for the Oca-Sic-Ando Lizadels, and made it a close game that was exciting to watch.

In between games, Amelia and Corinne played for FishHawk, along with some of the Hernando girls, against Sickles.
Amelia had an assist and a draw control and Corinne "played great defense in the second half" according to the Hawks Coach.

The second game had the girls against the Sickles Eight after Wesley Chapel forfeited refusing to play the "Super Team".
Playing 8v8, the girls got off to a fast start and never looked back, winning the 30 minute game convincingly by the score of 9-2.
Morgan from Hernando had 5 goals and Amelia netted 2 and assisted on several of Morgans goals with some good passes. Ariel Whitmore also added a goal in the game while sharing the draw circle duties with Morgan.
Kelly from Hernando who, along with several of the other girls, had played in three games already, finally scored a goal to end the game!
------------------------------------------------
LIZARDS BOYS LOSE TO ALL SAINTS:
The Lizards played an undefeated All Saints Academy from Lakeland Saturday, and were able to score three goals and played hard to make it a good game.
Final score was Ocala 3 All Saints 13.
The Lizards scoring was dominated by Johnny Wunderlich who had two goals and added an assist too.
Anthony Sorrentino was on the receiving end of a nice Wunderlich feed, off of a draw-and-dump play set up by Wes Mancil, for the third goal of the game.
Sam Raduns manned the pipes and came up with the tough saves all game.
This Saturday is a home game against Berkeley Prep at 1:00.
---------------------------------------------------
LIZARDS PROGRAM GOES 2 FOR FOUR:
On a weekend that saw the Middle School Lizards record their first victory, the Lady Lizards would not be denied and followed up with their first victory as well.
In a morning contest in Ocala, the young Middle Schoolers pulled off an impressive 10-2 victory over New Tampa Black on Saturday behind solid goaltending by Michael Hobbs and a hat trick by Hunter Fuhr who was all smiles after the game.
Congratulations to the players and Coaches who have worked hard all season for that elusive first win!

The next stop was Wesley Chapel where the Lady Lizards  played two games.
With some excellent scorekeeping by Rae McBride, the Lady Lizards were able to play their way to their first official victory!
Playing against Fish Hawk for the second time of the year, Mallory Locke led the girls with four goals and Katie Couch had three for the hat trick. Laura Mancil helped out the team offensively with two goals and Katie Essick and Amelia Terrill each had one.
The draw circle was controlled by Ariel Whitmore with the Lizards winning over fifty percent of the critical draws to maintain possesion and the passing and ground balls were key in keeping the Hawks late attempt at a comeback from getting any steam.
Delaney Webb came up with 10 saves behind the solid defense of Laura, KristEn Stevens, and Corinne Thomas.
A hard fought victory with a final score of 11- 7 will go in the record books.

Over at Plant, the Boys team traveled light and, according to one Lizards player, everyone who was there, was on the field.
A 15-0 loss despite the valiant attempt of Mike Manseau making his first ever appearance in goal before Sam Raduns was able to show up for some relief.
After getting their first program victory in the season opener, it has been a tough couple of games for the High School Boys offense who just can't seem to get its starters all together in the same game.
Next on the list is a home game at O.R.S. on Saturday at Noon against an undefeated All Saints Academy from Lakeland.

Meanwhile, the Lady Lizards had a second game to play against Clearwater and came out of the gates hungry against the first place Yellow Jackets.
In the first half of the game, playing without any subs, the Lizards kept the game close and had the Clearwater girls calling timeouts and scrambling to stay ahead.
But when Laura Mancil had to come out of the game late in the second half after being cracked hard on the right hand for the second time, coming away bloodied and with a swollen lip, the Yellow
Jackets pulled away with the Girls playing a man down.
Katie Couch had three goals, giving her two hat tricks for the day and Mallory Locke posted two goals.
The second half saw some amazing checks by Hannah Kirkpatrick and steals by Brittney Moore with good ball control on defense and Delaney Webb recorded 16 saves in the loss with the final tally 14-5.
The Girls maintained their composure in defeat and should be proud of the heart and effort showed on the field this weekend.
The Lady Lizards have the weekend off and return to action on the 28th at Lithia.
-------------------------------------------------------
LADY LIZARDS INCH CLOSER TO VICTORY
As their skills improve and the desire to compete grows stronger, the Lady Lizards creep closer to a regular season victory every game.
Playing two very close and competitive games at Freedom over the weekend, the Girls team came up empty in the win column, but both Sickles and Sarasota knew they were in a dogfight.
The first game in the Super Saturday format was against Sickles High School and the Lizards Girls team had a 6-2 lead at the halftime break, but gave up 8 goals in the second half to come off the field with a 10-8 loss.
Scoring the first hat trick of her career was Genevieve Wheeler who, although not starting the game, proved her desire to put points on the board as she would not be denied her three goal game.
Also getting in on the scoring were Mallory Locke, the teams leading scorer, with two goals. Rae McBride, Amelia Terrill and Ariel Whitmore each contributed one goal apiece to spread the scoring around.
An exciting game from start to finish, Delaney Webb provided good goaltending, reaching out to snare opponents passes and clearing the ball up field to start the offense (Do I get an assist for that one Coach Paul?) as well as coming up with 20 saves in the game, 14 of them in the first half.
A tough loss to take, but the Girls were not down on themselves and simply prepared for the second game of the day against the Sarasota Surge.

The second game against The Surge was a low scoring affair with both defenses being stingy and goalkeeping was key.
In a game that close, with the Lizards getting more shots on goal, the Sarasota goalie came up big turning away at least three point blank shots to keep all of the Lady Lizards off the scoreboard except for Mallory Locke who notched her 2nd hat trick of the season scoring all three goals for the Girls.
Once again Delaney Webb had a strong first half turning away 11 Sarasota shots and keeping the game tight. The final score was Sarasota 5 Lizards 3 with a goal by Sarasota with 5 seconds left closing out the scoring.
Excellent effort by Amelia Terrill in the last 2 minutes to try to tie the game fell short and with the 5th Sarasota goal to end the game with 5 seconds left, it was time to get back to the practice field and shoot, shoot, shoot.
---------------------------------------------------------
SARASOTA MILITARY ACADEMY ROLLS:
At Ringling Redskin Stadium in Sarasota, the Ocala Boys High School team ran into a fired up S.M.A. squad that ran up the score on the undermanned Lizards.
Traveling with 13 players, missing key components on defense, the Boys team gave it their best and kept their heads up in defeat losing by the score of 20-1.
Game reports from interim Head Coach Gary Saulsbury and an unnamed S.M.A. player indicated that the Lizards were overpowered throughout the match and the first teamers for the Eagles played the whole game, much to the chagrin of the S.M.A player who said "I felt bad that Coach kept the starters in even when we were ahead by 15, your goalie played great in the second half and the team never quit."
I was pleased to hear from the young man who seemed to understand more about good sportsmanship than his Coaches.
The "highlight" of the game appeared to be a friendly wager that had Wes Mancil winning the faceoff, and running through the Sarasota defense to score a $20 goal.
I am very proud of the Boys team for facing up to adversity and also maintaining their composure in a tough contest.
Next up is Plant B in South Tampa on Saturday.
--------------------------------------------------------
WHARTON HANDS OCALA A BIG LOSS
Despite a hard effort on the part of the Lizards, Wharton High School had a "walk in the park" firing on all cylinders on their way to a 19-1 win on Saturday.
Losing their second home game in a row, the Lizards just could not muster the firepower to put the ball in the net.
Mixing it up on the attack position, Coach Gary tried to get a spark going, but a lone goal by freshman Anthony Sorrentino was all the scoring the high school boys team could manage.
So, once again it is back to the practice field to work on the stick skills needed to match up against next weekends opponent; Sarasota Military Academy.
-----------------------------------------------------
GIRLS BATTLE HARD FOR TWO GAMES
Coming up short, but executing good play and sportsmanship, the Lady Lizards first contest was against Freedom.
Ocalas goals seemed to come from everywhere with Mallory Locke setting the pace early in the game with three goals in the first half.
Katie Couch also scored once as did Genevieve Wheeler and Amelia Terrill, who also had an assist in the game.
Brittney Mahaffee got in the scoring mix also, being in the right spot to convert a great feed from Hannah Kirkpatrick who came in strong off the bench to get the assist.
Delaney Webb had a great game between the pipes stopping ten shots in the first half and twelve in the second.
The final score was a respectable 13 - 7.

The second game of the day for the Lady Lizards was against Plant.
Another exciting contest, this one was never out of reach, but the girls would not get the win, losing to the Panthers by the score of 7 - 4.
With three yellow cards keeping the girls a man down for a lot of the contest, their chance at victory slipped away.
Keeping their head in the game, the girls continued to scrap and received goals from Mallory Locke (2) and Katie Couch (2).
Rae McBride recorded an assist from her backside as she drove hard to the goal and managed a pass to Couch before hitting the ground.
Delaney Webb recorded 12 saves in the game going the distance in goal for the Lady Lizards.
A great effort by the girls all weekend, who will work on ground balls at practice to maintain possession, in close games; possession is key.
-------------------------------------------------
OCALA: BOYS DROP HOME OPENER 18-11
The High School Boys team played their first home game of the season Saturday against Hillsborough United. A hard fought battle that had goalie Sam Raduns facing 38 shots on the day and coming up with 20 saves in the loss.
The game was a tale of two halves with Ocala leading at the half time break by the score of 8-7, but Hillsborough came out fast in the second half, firing shots from 20 yards out before getting to the Lizards defenders and creating space in the middle to take control of the scoring in the 3rd quarter. The fourth quarter was a good one for the home team, but it was a matter of too little too late as Hillsborough also continued to score to keep the game out of reach.
Putting points on the board for the Lizards were Malone Locke with 2 goals and 1 assist, Mat Woolf had 2 goals and 2 assists, most of them coming in the fourth quarter as the speedy midfielder tryed his best to jumpstart the Lizards offense. Senior Wes Mancil had 4 goals and 1 assist and John Wunderlich and Mike Manseau each had one goal apiece. Gainesville Buchholz transfer Alex Waddell also notched his first goal of the season to help out his new team. Also getting in the stat book was freshman Garret Whitmore with an assist to show for his hustle around the goal crease.
An exciting game to watch in front of a good home crowd at The Ocala Regional SportsPlex, the Lizards will have a chance to avenge the loss at home when Wharton travels to Ocala this weekend, gametime 1:00 at ORS.
--------------------------------------------------------
CLEARWATER: HIGH SCHOOL BOYS PUT ONE IN THE RECORD BOOKS!
The Lizards were riding high Saturday night as they earned the programs first, official, regular season win against division rival Clearwater.
Never falling behind, the Lizards run started with a goal by Wes Mancil who ended with 3 goals in the game and his solid face off work kept the ball in the Lizards possession.
John Wunderlich had 2 goals and 1 assist as did Matt Woolf. Freshman Anthony Sorrentino added one goal and had a "real purty" assist on one of Wes' goals.
Strong defensive play by Will Wright, Andy Hood and Tim Henderson kept the Yellowjackets from getting too many quality opportunities around the goal and Lizards goalie Sam "the Hebrew Hammer" Raduns kept most of their shots out of the cage ending the day with 17 saves.
A great moment in Ocala Lacrosse history and this reporter is proud to say that some respect may have been earned as it was well deserved in the way the whole team conducted itself on the field during and after the game.
Final score: Ocala 8 Clearwater 4.
Humble in defeat and gracious in victory. Great Job guys!
Next up - Hillsborough United at home.
-------------------------------------------------
GIRLS DROP TWO AT SEASON OPENER
Traveling to Clearwater Saturday for a Super Saturday vs FishHawk and Wesley Chapel, the girls had an impressive start and had FishHawk on the ropes for the first half and looked poised for a regular season victory.
The second half was a different story though, as FishHawks #24 took over the game and scored 5 of her 10 goals to put the game on ice for the girls from Lithia.
Scoring for the Lady Lizards was started off by Katie Couch who had 1 goal and an assist for the game. Mallory Locke scored twice as well and Amelia Terrill had 2 goals also.
Ariel Whitmore notched her first goal of the season and had a strong game at the draw circle and newcomer Stormi Coram earned an assist for her efforts on the field.
Goalie Delaney Webb had 11 saves in the game.
Final score: Ocala 6 FishHawk 12.

The second game of the day had the girls facing Wesley Chapel at 3:00.
A hard fought game, the Lady Lizards never quite hit stride after losing two players for the second game to "prior commitments" and already lacking depth on the bench.
There were some highlights though, as the girls played a tough, physical game.
Katie Essick scored one goal and earned an assist with good play around the goal crease. Katie Couch also scored a goal in the game. Delaney Webb had 9 stops.
Final Score: Wesley Chapel 12 Ocala 2
---------------------------------------------------------
        Girls Jamboree: Lizards win 2!!!
After a sluggish start in the early morning game against host team Clearwater, the Lady Lizards went on a roll.
The final score against Clearwater was 9-2 with Mallory Locke and Genevieve (Fifi) Wheeler each scoring a goal in the effort.

The second game of the Jamboree had the girls playing against SICKLES! and I think a small bit of vengeance may have sparked a well deserved victory as the Lady Lizards defense held strong and the offense nearly doubled their opponents output with a final score of 7-4.
Scoring for the Lizards were Mallory Locke with three for a hat trick, Fifi (more from her later), Rae McBride, Laura Mancil and rookie sensation Brittney Mahaffey, who wasn't finished yet.
Delaney Webb also earned her first, but not last, victory in goal turning away a barrage of Sickles shots.

In the final game of the day, the Lady Lizards faced the Sarasota Surge.
After soaking in the earlier victory, the girls went out and played with more confidence than ever and came away with their second victory of the day!
Almost keeping the Surge out of the picture altogether, the final score was 8-1.
Delaney Webb had another fine game in goal, nearly earning a shutout for her efforts.
Scoring goals, this time, came more from the defensive players with Laura Mancil scoring her second of the weekend and Amelia Terrill going coast-to-coast for a goal to start the game off.
Rae McBride added to her stats with a goal as well, and Mallory Locke kept pace with two more.
Brittney Mahaffey stuffed in another shot for a goal and Genevieve Wheeler notched two more in the final game to give her a total of 4 goals on the day!
Great job to all the girls who made the trip. Now we know we can do it!

THE "HOPKINS HONOR AWARD": Presented by Coach Greg Kelly, a Johns Hopkins Alum and a four year player of the heralded Division l program there, winning a NCAA National Championship in 1987 playing alongside and against some of the greatest players in the game like Dave Petriemala, Quint Kessenick and the Gait Brothers, Gary and Paul. Modeled after the Lizards High School Teams "Wooden Stick Award", the award, a 1989 NCAA logo dyed head on a game used wooden shaft, from the Johns Hopkins appearence in the 1989 Championships, will be presented at the end of each season to the Middle School player who best exemplifies Lacrosse in its true form.
The winner for 2008 is Hunter Fuhr who received the stick (a beauty!) and a trophy cup with his name on it to display for the year.
------------------------------------------
The Girls Lacrosse "Gary Gait Golden Globe Award" symbolized by an autographed yellow womens lacrosse ball signed by, without much doubt, the best player in the game. In his first year as a Head Coach of the Syracuse Womens team (his alma mater), after taking lacrosse to new heights in every aspect, even previously as a womens Assistant Coach at The University of Maryland. The award will be presented each season by Coach Paul to the girl who upholds the highest standards of respect, sportsmanship and comraderie in embracing the culture of the Girls Game of Lacrosse.
The winner for the year 2008 is Mallory Locke.
--------------------------------------
"The Legend of the Wooden Stick Award"
At the conclusion of each lacrosse season, from its inception in January of 2006, an award is presented by the Lizards Head Coach, Paul Balboni, to a player on the High School team who best represents the spirit of a lacrosse player in the eyes of the coaching staff.
Lacrosse is much more than a sport, it is an ancient game of honor, integrity, respect, and character.  Players eligible for this award should respect all those involved, from teammates, to opponents, referees, coaches, and fans.  Never letting his teammates down, never giving up, cheering both in the game and on the bench, and working as hard in practice as he does in games, displaying good sportsmanship and promoting the game of lacrosse on and off the field of play.
The actual award, an old, wooden shaft, STX Laser High Wall model lacrosse stick - game used for many games in the mid 1980's by Coach Paul - is symbolic of the original wooden crosses hand carved by the North American Indians and used in the "Field of Battle".  The shaft of the stick was hand signed "DSOC Lax Award Ryan Powell 22", by one of the best lacrosse players in the game today.  One of Syracuse Colleges great # 22's, Ryan Powell autographed the stick at a Powell Brothers Lacrosse Camp in Clearwater, Florida attended by Coach Paul and two Lizards Team members Joel Huffman and Marshall White III, in November of 2005.
The first recipient of the award honored at the end of the year banquet in March 2006 was Andy Hood. John Wunderlich won the award for the 2007 season. Wes Mancil won the award in 2008.
All Lizards team members are encouraged to strive for the Wooden Stick Award and model their play on and off the field to honor the "Game of the Creator".
